Lettering The Beatles
When I listen to music, I generally have one or two favorite songs in an album, and the rest I really don't care whether they exist or not. But with the Beatles, I feel the opposite. I truly enjoy listening to most of their songs, and there's really only one or maybe two songs per album that I'm not crazy about. But I can usually get through an entire Beatles album without feeling the need to hit "skip."
One of the things I find most impressive about the Beatles, and why I believe the Beatles are indisputably the greatest band in history, is firstly, the amount of songs they produced, and secondly, the amount of great songs they produce. The ratio is incredibly high. The Eight Days a Week documentary by Ron Howard first drew my attention to this. (If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend you do.) The demand to produce a large volume of original songs forced the Beatles into some sort of hyper-creative overdrive. And clearly, they got some good work out of it.
“Eight days a week is not enough to show I care”
I've had this idea ruminating in my head for a while, but had felt somewhat unsure about doing a project that involved this many pieces of work. But as I was thinking about it, it made the most sense to go ahead and aim that high. After all, didn't I just say the Beatles are my inspiration? I doubt the Beatles could have produced the same quality of work if they didn't have the quantity of songs and practice to back them up.
Lettering The Beatles is my journey to letter the 212 song titles produced by the Beatles. Lettering is definitely something I want to improve on, so I figure might as well do it for something I enjoy! I'm looking forward to the journey and will keep this blog updated with my process. Stay tuned!
